Commodore’s Corner: Feb 09
With
snow melting and the days getting longer, it will soon be time
for us to get the boats ready for spring launch. It was reported that
on February 2nd, the groundhog saw his shadow and we are now in for
six more weeks of winter, so we have a little bit more time. Every year it seems like he sees his shadow and we have six more weeks
of winter. I think we need a new weather animal - one that gets spring here sooner.
As we get closer to bringing the boats out of
mothballs, I would like to remind everyone not to forget your trailer
on the maintenance list. Simple things such as checking tire
pressures and conditions can save you a lot of heartache on the road.
All tires loose pressure over time so it is good to check them before
traveling down the road. The recommended tire pressure is printed on
the tire sidewall, so check for the manufacturer’s recommended pressure
for maximum load. Check the sidewalls for cracking and dry rot and
replace as needed. Do not rely just on tread depth to determine the
condition of your tires. UV damage and improper tire pressure will
generally reduce tire life faster, and long before, the effects of road
wear.
I look forward to seeing everyone on the water soon.
